Downloads - Brought to you by Karen Wisse, compiled from suggestions from myself and other stroke survivors. Good luck to you and get on with smiling and being free from your former struggles - yes enjoy your new struggles, you've got the time now. Be loved and let people in and let them help with love not pity.

I had complications of the throat variety, and need to hydrate my Esophagus, or choke and get anxiety. I learnt that I have a sphincter valve that is faulty, in my throat. Like my gum that no-longer covers all my teeth (long in the tooth), like my tendons that are tight instead of normal, like my valves are loose instead of tight. OK, I got to relearn the walking and talking and stuff, so I can do this!

Each of us have different issues, be as healthy as you can. Start today, and share your discovery's with your family. Whilst we do not know if these things are hereditary, it's highly likely.

I decided the cholesterol pills gave me too many additional cramps, aches and stomach concearn's, bowel concearn's etc, so I went to a private hospital and got a Calcium Cardiac CT Scan, which gave me the all clear for diseased cholesterol issues, so I ditched those pills. I still have the odd one after pizza. Yes I do. Can't hurt. Like Insurance. Although after a stroke you won't be able to buy health insurance unless you pay through the roof.

I also ditched the high blood pressure pills, after discovering my readings at the Doctor's office where too high simply due to the stress of negotiating transport, waiting for ages, having to pay another few bills I couldn't afford etc. I bought a home wrist monitor to test my at rest pulse, and discovered it was fine. So I stopped getting high blood pressure pills. Excellent.

I also upped my water to flush my digestive system, made home made yogurt, and included nuts and seeds in my pulse blender for shakes that were high in alkaline to aid my throat and purify my blood etc.

I do take painkillers, as walking, even sitting is a burden, so again - more water and take care of your kidneys and digestion.

The trick is to buy food that you like, and is easy and accessible and cheap. AND. HEALTHY. So for me, that's soups, and plenty of drinks to irrigate the throat, and soft food - like very expensive steak. Yes, and prawns, and fish, and scallops. Yep, budget all things, and retrain your spending habits to accommodate your new found risk adverse lifestyle.
